Action of heat on Copper II Sulphate
Instructions:
- Place about three spatulas of dry copper II sulphate in a dry test
tube.
- Heat gently at first and then strongly until no further change occurs.
You may need to use a spatula to prevent cakeing of the copper II sulphate
by breaking up the lumps that form.
- Allow to cool and empty the residue into a dry evaporating basin.
- Resting the evaporating basin on the palm of your hand, add water
dropwise from a pipette.
Record your observations carefully and consider the following when
writing up your experiment
Which principles do you think this experiment demonstrates?
What would happen if the experiment were performed in a sealed (shatter-proof)
tube?
Would this demonstrate any other principle?
